EDFD - Educational Foundations
As the first course in the Education and Equity certificate, the purpose of this course is three-fold:1) to equip students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to reflect on and better understand their perspectives on culture/diversity and its role in educational and societal structures and practices; 2) to equip students with the knowledge of the need for school improvement; 3) to equip student with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to reflect of the connections between school improvement and equity and introduce methods for addressing these equity issues.

The purpose of the second course in the program is two-fold:1) to equip students with the knowledge and understanding of the historical roots of inequality in the education of students of color and the impacts of it on the individual, community, and the society; 2) to equip students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to function as culturally responsive educators and leaders both within the school and the larger educational community.

The purpose of the final program course is two-fold:1) to equip students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to research, plan and implement an “Equity Work Sample” in their own classroom; 2) to complete a clinical practice experience focused on educational improvement and equity in an educational setting, and then to reflect on this process.
