Library Media M.Ed. (Online)
Program Description
The Master of Education degree in Library Media prepares graduates for careers in the school setting or (instructional technology) for careers outside of education. The program requires a minimum of 36 semester hours of course work. The degree program must be completed within six years of the initial date courses begin. Students may require more than 36 hours in order to qualify for certification in a particular program area. A T-4 certificate is not required for admission to the library media program of study but applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree. Non-Degree Certification programs are also available for students who already have an undergraduate degree and hold a T-4 certificate with the Georgia PSC. These degrees are not offered in a cohort model and all programs of study are fully online.
The Master of Education degree in Library Media with Instructional Technology Certification requires 36 semester hours of course work. Courses must include professional education and courses in the certification areas. This degree program must be completed within six years of the date of the initial coursework listed on the Program of Graduate Study. T4 certification in a teaching field is not required for admission to the program but applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree. This degree is not a cohort model, meaning students may begin at any time—fall, spring, or summer.
M.Ed. Admission Requirements
For admission to the program, process applicants should submit the following:
- University Admissions Form including application fee, if applicable
- Two professional recommendations
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution to be eligible for admission into a graduate program at Georgia College.
- Minimum GPA of 2.75
- Verify two years teaching experience while holding a clear and renewable certificate
M.Ed. Advisement
Each candidate for the Master of Education degree is assigned a graduate advisor who serves as a mentor to the Master's Candidate and assists in proposing, scheduling and completing the Master of Education Program of Graduate Study.
M.Ed. Program of Study
The Master of Education program requires a minimum of 36 semester hours of course work. Masters programs must be completed, with the degree awarded, within six years of the initial coursework listed on the program of study. Only those courses listed on the Program of Graduate Study fulfill degree requirements. Substitutions must be approved by the advisor prior to course enrollment, and a Change of Graduate Program of Study form submitted to the office of the Department Chairperson. Grades below a C do not fulfill degree requirements.

M.Ed. Exit Requirements
All students must pass a comprehensive departmental exit requirement and fulfill degree requirements to graduate including an electronic portfolio presentation. Students should check with their assigned program advisor for specifics.
Transient Credit
Six semester hours in the selected field of study may be transferred from other accredited institutions with prior approval of the advisor. The transient permission form can be found at www.gcsu.edu/registrar
Academic Dismissal Policy
Per graduate graduation requirements, a graduate student must maintain a minimum institutional GPA of 3.0 in the degree program. A graduate student cannot earn less than a grade of C in any course to be counted for degree credit. When a graduate student's institutional GPA falls below 3.0, that student is placed on graduate academic probation. It is critical at this point for the student to seek guidance from his/her academic advisor in order to identify strategies for raising the institutional GPA and completing the program.
A Library Media/Instructional Technology student has the semester following placement on academic probation to raise his/her GPA to a 3.0 or above. If the student does not raise his/her institutional GPA to the required level, the student will be dismissed from the program.

Note 2: In order to meet PSC requirements, you must take
EDEX 6111 if you have not previously taken a special education course. Per HB 671, students must earn a grade of “B” or better to fulfill this requirement.

EDIT 6960 is taken twice. One internship is in Library Media and the other in Instructional Technology.

Students must take both GACE Media Specialist Tests (101 and 102). Passing scores for GACE 101 and 102 are required for certification.
Notes:
EDEX 6111 Exceptional Individual in Regular Classes is required unless student is certified to teach in the State of Georgia. Per HB 671, students must earn a grade of “B” or better to fulfill this requirement.
EDIT 6202 Advanced Instructional Technology for Teachers can be used in place of EDIT 5202 Instructional Technology for Teachers when that course was completed by the student during undergraduate degree work.
