Art B.A. - Fine Art Studio Concentration
To be considered for admittance into the Fine Art Studio Concentration track you must present a portfolio, have a 3.0 GPA in the major, have completed Area F, and have three letters of recommendations from the Art faculty. The portfolio must include documentation of recent work, a proposal for the creation of original work for the senior year, and a bibliography of artists researched for the project. Those interested should contact the Department of Art for details, and submit a complete application package during junior year after completion of 60 credit hours.
Degree Requirements
Area F (18 semester hours)
(Art majors are required to complete all courses in Area F. Any transfer student who has not completed the courses in Area F, or their equivalents, must take these courses at GC)
Concentration Requirements (33 semester hours)
Three classes from the following 2000-level Studio offerings are required (9 hours):
ARTS 3-4000: 24 hours from the above disciplines
Fine Art Studio Capstone (6 semester hours)
Senior Thesis Project and Senior Thesis Exhibition are to be taken in sequence and only during the senior year.
Cognate Area (12 semester hours)
Complete four 4000-level classes in Art History including one Non-Western Art History course. The following are recommended but substitutions are allowed:
Foreign Language Requirements (3-12 semester hours)
Students must demonstrate minimum proficiency at the level of the fourth university course (2002) in one foreign language.
Electives (0-6 semester hours)
Total Credit Hours: 120
Other Requirements
- A grade of C or better is required for all courses that count toward major requirements.
- A minimum of 39 hours overall must be at the 3000-4000 level.
- Complete First-Year Academic Seminar with a satisfactory grade. Students who transfer to GC are exempt from this requirement.
