Degree Requirements
A student can choose to pursue a Third World Studies concentration within the Liberal Studies major at any time in her/his college career, although students are advised to declare their major early in order to ensure a timely completion of their degree program.

Foreign Language Requirement
Students must demonstrate minimum proficiency at the level of the fourth university course (2002) in one foreign language, but only the fourth (2002) university course can count in Area F. Any hours not applied to Area F may be applied toward elective hours.

Major Areas
Take 24 semester hours distributed as follows, with at least 1 course addressing issues in each of the following regions: South and Central America; Africa; and Asia.

Humanities (9 semester hours)
Note: PHIL 4950 is a Special Topics course; topic must be chosen in consultation with advisor.
Social Science (9 semester hours)
Note: AFST 4950 is a Special Topics course; only the following section/title is approved for use in the Social Science area: AFST 4950 African Technology and Society.
Fine Arts (6 semester hours)
Capstone (3 semester hours)
An appropriate 4000-level course to be chosen in consultation with the advisor that will additionally include a senior research paper/project
OR
Appropriate Study Abroad chosen in consultation with the advisor.
Electives (6-15 semester hours)
Electives will vary by student because of varying credits needed for foreign language requirement.
