MUED - Music Education
Prerequisite: Admission to the M.M.Ed. program and MUED 3040 or equivalent experience. A course designed to provide additional training in the area of basic vocal pedagogy that is specific to the public school music specialist.

Prerequisite: Admission to the MMEd program. A course designed to acquaint the graduate student in music education with field-specific technologies in the areas of technology-assisted learning, music production and notation, multimedia production, and classroom/lab management software.

This course is for students who are working toward initial music teacher certification. In it we focus on teaching all students in the music classroom. Meets teacher certification requirements for music education majors. Practicum experience will replace one class meeting each week.

Prerequisite: Admission to the M.M.Ed program. A course designed to allow the graduate student to work with graduate faculty on topics selected to meet special needs or interests. This course is repeatable for credit.

Prerequisite: Admission to the MMEd or MAT in Music Education program. This on-line distance education course is a study of the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment of affective teaching and supervision of curriculum. Some face to face meetings will be required. Basic knowledge of computers and use of internet is required.

Prerequisite: Admission to the MMEd or MAT in Music Education program. The purpose of this course is to complete and submit for publication a music education curriculum project. Projects may be research articles, pedagogy articles, program curriculum plans, presentation proposals, or similar projects as approved by the course instructor. This is the capstone project for this degree program.

Prerequisite: Admission to the MMEd or MAT in Music Education program. This course will include the study of children’s vocal and motor control development, and issues relating to the development of age-appropriate musical performance opportunities for elementary aged children. This semester we will focus particularly on creating performance opportunities that enhance the typical elementary music education curriculum and meet the National Standards (NS) and the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). Students will develop and improve their skills in performance technology (such as soundboards and microphones), performance logistics (such as sets, costumes and staging), and teaching performance (such as singing, moving/dancing, and acting).

Prerequisite: Admission to the MMEd program. This course will include an in-depth study into a select number of core works in the choral canon. Furthermore, students will review and create lists of quality works in various difficulty levels that can immediately be taken back to their classrooms. Additionally, the course will include a survey into the history of choral singing from medieval sacred music to contemporary choral repertoire. Students will be able to use this historical knowledge to improve their score preparation, rehearsal planning, and teaching.

Prerequisite: Admission to the MMEd program. This course will include an in-depth study into a select number of core works in the wind band repertoire. Furthermore, students will review and create lists of quality works in various grade levels that can immediately be taken back to their classrooms. Additionally, the course will include a survey into the history of bands from medieval tower ensembles to contemporary symphonic bands and wind ensembles. Students will be able to use this historical knowledge to improve their score preparation, rehearsal planning, and teaching.

Prerequisite: Admission to MMEd program. The purpose of this course is to acquaint the graduate student in music education with field-specific research methods and resources using a variety of writing projects, research assignments, and in-class presentations.

Prerequisites: Admission to M.M.Ed. program and MUED 3909 or equivalent course or experience. This course will continue the work done in either an undergraduate course or relevant elementary experience by focusing on two important approaches to teaching music in the elementary school: Orff and Kodaly.

Prerequisite: Admission to MMEd program and permission of graduate faculty. This is a guided research project in which the graduate student in music education has the opportunity to research and execute an approved study in an environment conducive to their particular field of expertise. This course is repeatable for credit.

Prerequisite: Admission to MM.Ed. program. The organization, development, and maintenance of a balanced secondary choral music program including general music. In this course the students will learn to apply teaching methodology/ technology to the choral and general music classroom, and then evaluate those procedures for effectiveness and possible alternative approaches. The continued improvement of leadership qualities, communication skills, organization (time and resources), and a desire for excellence are the primary outcomes in order that each student will progress as a dynamic and successful choral music educator.

Prerequisite: MUED 5800 (Research in Music Education) and permission of major professor and admission to MM.Ed Program. Guided research and thesis writing on a directed thesis project. This course is repeatable for credit.

Prerequisite: Admission to MM.Ed. program. This course is designed to give the masters of music education student and opportunity to experience the administration side of being a secondary public school instrumental director as well as research current trends in classroom methods, performance practices, and rehearsal techniques.

Prerequisite: Admission to the MAT Music Education program. As part of the music teacher education program, the student demonstrates in public school classrooms the abilities to draw on deep content knowledge in order to plan, implement and evaluate curriculum; to foster and to assess student learning; to identify and plan for the needs of diverse learners; to contribute to the educational life of the school and community.
