Prerequisite: Cannot be taken for credit by students who had two years or more of Spanish in high school. Introduction to listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish and to the culture of Spanish-speaking regions. One hour of language laboratory per week is required. This accelerated course reviews basic principles of the Spanish language and basic patterns of Spanish-speaking cultures for students with some background of high school Spanish. It is not open to students with credit in SPAN 1002. Significant online homework is a key component of this course, allowing class time to be dedicated to practice and authentic communication.
