Prerequisite: Cannot be taken for credit by students who had two years or more of German in high school. An introduction to the language and culture of the German-speaking countries. Beginning of a survey of basic German grammar and the grammar and the development of the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing German. Some aspects of everyday life in the German-speaking countries will also be introduced. One hour of language laboratory per week is required. Prerequisite: GRMN 1001, or equivalent. The second part of an introduction to the language and culture of the German-speaking countries. Completion of the survey of basic German grammar and further development of the language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing German. Prerequisite: GRMN 2001. Designed to increase students' facility in reading German literary texts and prepare them to participate readily in literature courses conducted mainly in the language. Additional special course fee required; see semester course schedule for amount.
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. Consideration of topics in which courses are not otherwise offered, but for which there is a current need at the freshman/sophomore level. This course is repeatable for credit.
